The club
has long wanted to replace its ageing
clubhouse and things may now be happening.
Supporters Club chairman Chris Musson has
this to say following a recent football
club committee meeting - |
Tuesday 29th April. "The
football club will shortly be putting in a
planning application to replace the existing
clubhouse with a 4 year old building of broadly
similar dimensions. This building is available
now and is currently located in the Ribble Valley
area.
Timescales are extremely tight as planning
applications can take up to eight weeks and there
can be no guarantee of success. Equally, the
close season only lasts until, effectively, the
end of July. Based on costing estimates and
mindful of some available resources, the
committee estimates that the funding gap is of
the order of £30,000. Compared to other options
we have discussed on this board, this is
massively less than even the most optimistic of
us thought it would be.
Clearly, we will have to assume planning
permission will be agreed so that we can start to
assemble resources. Remember, however, the
planning process has not even started yet. To set
the ball rolling, the committee has agreed to put
our share of the sponsored walk, £1,500, towards
the project. Equally, the four members of the
Supporters' Club committee have agreed to put £500
of Supporters' Club resources towards the project.
And so to the rest. The proposal is that
we offer 500 bricks at £50 each to fans, old and
new, townspeople, current and ex players, indeed
to anyone who has Clitheroe FC at heart. All
those who buy a brick will be acknowledged in the
clubhouse - the number of bricks will be
immaterial. The same acknowlegement will be given
for 1 as for 100. Just think, if each of our 250
regular fans could find £100, we can hopefully
plan for a new clubhouse by the start of next
season. I know this is a huge ask given the
current economic climate, but the success of this
project depends on us all - the best fans,
players and town in the league.
Obviously now is the close season. The next 4-6
weeks will be crucial. Please dig deep, tell
people who don't go on the website and let's make
this a reality. Cheers, Chris."
