Blues Review

After four wins from five matches in August, Simon Garner’s side gear up to embark on a tricky September month starting with the long trip to face Spennymoor Town at the Brewery Field this Saturday.

Having exceeded all expectations so far, the Blues currently sit in fifth position in the table and with 9 points from a possible 12 on the board, even the most pessimistic of supporters must surely be getting excited about the current crop of players currently plying their trade at Shawbridge.

Comprehensive victories against Prescot Cables, Droylsden and Lancaster City have proved to the division that the Blues mean business this term and despite a 3-0 loss away at Mossley AFC on the 22nd August, Garner’s men will be confident of maintaining their top half position this month.

The way the new-look forward line have gelled has been incredibly encouraging and with 17 goals coming from five matches, the Blues strike force are quickly gaining a reputation for being the most potent finishers in the division.

With three, four and five goals scored in league matches this term, the likes of Louis Mayers and Scott Bakkor are leading the way at Shawbridge and this potency should lead Garner and his team to plenty of victories in the months to come.

Despite failing to record a clean sheet this season, Gregg Anderson and Danny Brady have been colossuses in the back four and both will be looking to lead the Blues to shut-outs in upcoming fixtures against Kendal Town, Marine AFC and firstly Spennymoor Town.

With the Blues winning one and losing one of their two away fixtures so far, three points in the North East this weekend could see the side climb up as high as second with a victory. However defeat could see Garner’s men drop as low as 13th.

The Blues played their part in two exciting contests against Spennymoor Town last season, with an incredible 13 goals scored in 180 minutes of action.

An 8-3 defeat in the North East was the low-point of Simon Garner’s season last term and revenge will be firmly on the agenda for all involved at Clitheroe football club when the sides meet this weekend.

Our Opponents

After a solid start to the season, Jason Ainsley’s Spennymoor Town side sit one place and one point below Clitheroe going into Saturday’s fixture.

With the Moors picking up eight points from their first four league matches, the Durham based club will be expectant of building on their fifth placed finish last season and with many Non-League aficionados tipping the club for promotion come the end of April, expectation is high as the Brewery Field.

Having scored eight times already this season, the Moors frontline are firing on all cylinders once again. The sides back four have also carried on their momentum from 2014-15 with a number of solid displays thwarting the striker forces of both Radcliffe Borough and Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Clean sheets were Ainsley’s mens main component last season and with one of the best defences in Non-League football, most teams travelling to the North East will struggle to come away with any more than a point this term.

Form at the Brewery Field has been impressive so far and with the Moors unbeaten in their last three home matches, the visit of Clitheroe could make or break the sides early season form.

With the Moors currently unbeaten in the division, a victory would see the club climb into third position in the table, however defeat could drop the North East based club as low as 14th.
