First point for Blues
Blues gained their first league point of the season with a draw against League new boys Brighouse Town.
Simon Garner had to make further changes to the team with James Walker ruled out with a calf injury. New signing Sefton Gonazales who had a brief spell with us last season, played up front.
Blues took the lead on 14 minutes through a Danny Wilkins penalty after Richard Burns was brought down in the box.
On 20 minutes, Blues were awarded a free kick 30 yards out and Charlie Collinge hit it first time and it unluckily came back off the post.
Brighouse had their first chance on 22 minutes when Isaac Baldwin's shot was well blocked by Matt Green.
The visitors made a change on 35 minutes with Ryan Hall replacing Joe Jagger, a move which made the difference for Brighouse.
Just before half time Dom Mulkerrin went down awkwardly after an innocuous challenge, resulting with him going to hospital which was later diagnosed as a badly broken arm. Danny Morton replaced him.
Half time: Clitheroe 1 Brighouse Town 0
The second half saw Brighouse start the brighter of the sides and they levelled the scores on 58 minutes, when substitute Ryan Hall broke clear on the right and shot in to the top corner of the net.
The lead lasted just two minutes when from a Simon Garner corner, Steve Mercer rose to head the home team back in front.
On 65 minutes, Brighouse levelled for a second time when a huge goal kick from Jacob Giles went over the Clitheroe back line for Hall to slide the ball past Matt Green in the Clitheroe goal.
Clear chances were few and far between for the remainder of the game but Brighouse nearly stole the points in the last minute, when Ernest Boafo's chance was cleared off the line by Adam Freeland.
A draw was a fair result on the day marred by the serious injury to Dom Mulkerrin. We wish him a speedy recovery.
