Colwyn Bay 3-2 Clitheroe
By Roy Fearnhead
Two goal lead evaporates
Colwyn Bay played with the benefit of a stiff breeze behind them in the first half and Clitheroe struggled to clear their lines and retain possesion. On 14 minutes Chris Thompson made a fine close range save to deny the home side. The Blues' best effort of the half saw Alex Newby knock the ball past ex-Clitheroe defender Tom Hardwick and then outpace him but his final ball into the box brought nothing. On the stroke of half time Alex Newby fired in a low freekick from the edge of the D but the home keeper dived to his right to make the save.
Clitheroe made a dream start to the second half when they took the lead in the 47th minute. A long Ryan Cattermole throw-in was headed clear to the edge of the box but it was knocked sideways and Brad Carroll thundered in a shot that went in off the underneath of the bar. They doubled the lead in the 53rd minute when an Alex Newby effort was deflected to wrong-foot the keeper.
This stung Colwyn Bay into action and they reduced the arrears in the 57th minute when ex-Blue Scott Bakkor drilled the ball home across Chris Thompson. They equalised in the 69th minute and took the lead in the 79th minute when Bakkor got to the byeline and crossed low for the ball to be knocked in from close range. Johnny Hession had a late chance to level the scores when he cut in from the left wing but his curling effort across goal also sailed over the bar.
