The Blues put in a good display and matched their Premier Division opponents for the full ninety minutes.
The match was over-shadowed by three red cards to Clitheroe’s Roberto Bonaminio and David Lynch plus Workington’s Gari Rowntree. There were also eight yellow cards in a game with hardly a bad tackle committed.
Zach Hibbert made his return to Shawbridge in goal and Sam Dickinson replaced cup-tied Jason Hart.
Workington went in front on 29 minutes when Scott Allison’s shot was well saved by Zack Hibbert, but the rebound fell straight to Alex Salmon who finished well.
The Blues were dealt a huge blow after Bonaminio was dismissed on 40 minutes, after tripping a Workington player on the edge of the box. The referee adjudged that he was the last man and a red card was shown.
Danny Wilkins replaced Sam Dickinson in the aftermath of the sending-off, with Simon Garner moving to play centre back.

The numbers were evened up when Workington left back, Rowntree was dismissed for a 2nd yellow card on 53 minutes.
Workington wrapped the game up on 69 minutes, when a poor defensive error let in Matt Tymon to score.
The Blues tried their best to get back in to the game but Workington defended superbly. The final straw came when the Blues were reduced to nine men on 87 minutes. David Lynch let his frustration get the best of him and he was dismissed for his 2nd yellow card.
Workington are now away to Witton Albion in the next round.
