Lancaster City 2 Clitheroe 7
Blues won at Giant Axe for the second time this season, with a superb display of attacking football.
Blues included Alex Palffy in goal for the first time this season, replacing Andrew Dawber. Otherwise this was our strongest available team. Lancaster however opted to field mostly reserve and youth team players, a move which backfired spectacularly for them.
The early stages didn't suggest a goal feast for the Blues as there were few chances. Richard Burns had a header come back off the bar on 9 minutes, that was the only chance for either team in the first 20 minutes.
On 22 minutes, Lancaster were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Gavin Clark took it and curled it round the wall and in to the far corner of the net to give the Dolly Blues a 1-0 lead.
Blues bounced backed in devastating style scoring four goals in a twelve minute burst before half time. Alex Ralph levelled on 33 minutes when he tapped home from close range. Zach Clark made it 2-1 on 36 minutes with a stunning volley from a Danny Morton cross. Liam Hutchinson made it 3-1 on 43 minutes, when he curled a shot form the edge of the area past the Lancaster keeper. Goal number four came right on half time when Clark ran unchallenged in to the box to round the keeper to walk the ball in.

Blues continued to press for more goals after the break. Liam Hutchinson was close to scoring his 2nd on 57 minutes when he rounded the keeper, but a Lancaster defender did well to block his shot. Seydou Bamba and Adam Freeland replaced James Walker and David Lynch on 59 minutes as Simon Garner opted to keep them fresh for our game at Droylsden on Saturday.
Roberto Bonaminio scored his first goal in Blues colours on the hour, when his shot from the edge of the box was helped in to the net by the unfortunate Lancaster keeper, Mike Donlon. Neville Nelson replaced the impressive Alex Ralph on 61 minutes.
Lancaster pulled a goal back on 68 minutes through Tom Woods, but the Blues continued to dominate for the remainder of the game.
On 79 minutes, Nelson was brought down in the box by Donlon and a penalty was awarded. Zach Clark converted it to make it 6-2 and completing his hat-trick. Goal number seven came on 84 minutes when Clark scored his fourth,, with a fine header from Morton's cross.
He nearly scored his fifth in the last minute, when his superb chip over the keeper came back off the post. A match to remember for Zach, scoring four goals against his former club.
Blues now in to the next round and face a home tie against Nelson.
