Under-18s take centre stage to face Chester in FA Youth Cup

The Blues will break new ground when they launch their FA Youth Cup bid against Chester FC at Shawbridge on Wednesday night.

The Under-18s in their current guise haven’t played in the competition before.

And facing the National League North side’s Academy set-up - who play in the FA's North-West Youth Alliance - will pit Clitheroe against the highest ranked opposition they have ever faced.

Understandably, boss Steve Entwistle is expecting a tough test for a side which has played just two games so far this season in the U18 Lancashire Sunday League, winning one and losing one.

But he wants his young charges to go out and enjoy the experience of playing in the first qualifying round of a competition won last season by Liverpool.

“It’s going to be a real test and a tall order for our youngsters,” said Entwistle.

“They have only just come together as a team and they are learning about each other as they go along.

“They’ve only had a couple of competitive games, but they’ll go out and give it a go and they will be able to say they’ve played in the FA Youth Cup."

Kick-off on Wednesday night is 7pm with admission £3 adults and £2 concessions, with the grub tub open for refreshments.

Everyone is welcome to come and back the young Blues on their historic night.
