Big boost for Blues as midfielder Ross Dent comes home

Fans’ favourite Ross Dent is coming back to Shawbridge in another coup for the Blues.
The signing of Dent means a return to Clitheroe for the tough-tackling midfielder following a two-year spell at Bet Victor Premier Division side Stalybridge Celtic.
Dent followed ex-Blues boss Simon Haworth to Bower Fold in the summer of 2018 and was a regular in the Celtic side throughout his stay.
But the 26-year-old has now agreed to re-join the Blues in a major statement of intent for recently-appointed boss David Lynch – a one-time team-mate of Dent at Shawbridge.
“I am over the moon that Ross has agreed to join the football club. He was one of the main targets we identified from the outset and we have worked hard to secure him,” said Lynch, who adds Dent to defender Billy Priestley and attacking midfielder Danny Pilkington on his list of new recruits since taking charge earlier this month.
“Ross is not only a fantastic player but a brilliant character. He is exactly the kind of player that I want in my dressing room.
“Ross maintained a wish to play as high as possible, but the project excited him just as much as it did me.
“We are looking to create an atmosphere which demands the highest standards both on and off the pitch and Ross coming on board will contribute hugely to this.”
Local lad Dent made his first-team bow as a teenager with the Blues back in 2011/12 under the management of Carl Garner, who has also returned to Clitheroe this summer as the club’s director of football.
He went on to become a mainstay of the Blues’ midfield and twice won the club’s player-of-the-year title either side of a brief switch to Colne in 2016.
Dent is also a former fans’ player of the year and makes a welcome return to his hometown team as the Blues build for the 2020/21 campaign.
“Once again the club has backed David in bringing in one of his main targets,” said Garner.
“Having given Ross his debut I’ve followed his progress closely and like all Blues’ fans I’m looking forward to seeing him back on Shawbridge.
“He quite simply does what it says on the tin; he loves a tackle, never takes a backward step and weighs in with a good few goals every season. Welcome back Ross.”
