The Board and management team met this week at Shawbridge

The Clitheroe FC board and management team met this week at the managers’ request to discuss the season so far, and what to expect in the future.

Over a chilly two hours together we outlined the short-term objectives of keeping the club in the league, whilst at the same time ensuring that there are firm foundations in place for next season.

Our season didn’t start as anybody wanted, mainly due to a poor pre-season and inconsistent player recruitment, along with a bloated wage bill.

Lee Ashforth and Dave Mannix, when appointed, were given the targets of keeping the club in the NPL and getting the budget back under control.

Results have not been going our way of late, but the management team reflected at length on the quality of individuals in the current squad, only 8 of whom started the season with us, whilst recognising that the missing ingredient was a number of experienced players. Budget restraints have made it extremely difficult to recruit this type of player because they can command payments which are currently out of the club’s scope.

At the close of the meeting, there was full agreement from the Board that if the Northern Premier League status was maintained and the budget adhered to, therefore targets hit, Lee and his management team will get the chance to implement their own vision and to build on the foundations already in place into next season .
