Colne 3-0 Clitheroe 22-04-19
A solid Colne side took a major stride towards securing a play off berth by comfortably disposing of a Clitheroe side bereft of confidence and inspiration.
The home side kicked down the hill in the first half and with their first real attack of the game on 14 minutes burst down the left and from the resultant overlap and cross, the ball was bundled scruffily home. It took until the half hour mark for Clitheroe to register a chance, when Bevan Burey drove down the right and fed Max Hazeldine, who had a good shot saved. Six minutes later, Jacob Gregory span on the edge of the box and his shot whistled narrowly over. One minute later, Hazeldine fashioned the best chance for the Blues as he received a ball over the top of the defence and lashed the ball against the post from nowhere.
In the second half, Alex Low was in the early action at both ends. From forcing a save from the keeper from a corner, he then was soon after relieved of the ball on his own bye line, but Colne over elaborated and the clear opening came to nothing. On 58 minutes, Hazeldine had another chance after a lofted pass by Burey over the defence, but again it came to nothing. On 62 minutes, Colne had a free kick well inside the Clitheroe half and from a lofted ball, a clear header ballooned unchallenged into the goal. Other chances were few and far between, although Cole Lonsdale had a good run and burst down the left followed by a solid drive on 87 minutes. However, as the clock ticked down, Ben Purdham made a hash of a defensive clearance under no pressure, feeding the ball instead to ex Blue Ollie Wood, who simply popped the ball in the net.
