Clitheroe Football Club was saddened to learn of the death last week of club stalwart, Reg Lawson. Although he had not been able to make games in recent years due to ill health, he was always hungry for information about how his beloved Blues had performed. He was always the first to ring the club after the game to catch up on the score on home games. He also got a home programme delivered to him by Pat Jones and more often than not an away programme delivered also.

Reg had been an active committee member at the club since the seventies and for many years he was the first sight which greeted spectators as he plied his trade with the club raffle, raising thousands of pounds over the years in the process. He was such a character that for a time in the eighties, he became the subject of an in-house fanzine! Chair Anne Barker said “Reg could not hide his enthusiasm and love for the club, and that effervescent personality will be my abiding memory. The football club has lost a dear friend and lifelong supporter”.

Reg’s funeral will be held next Tuesday 10 January at 2.20pm at Accrington Crematorium.

The funeral cortege will leave Reg's home on Newton Street at 1.45pm and drive past Shawbridge on the way to Accrington.

We will be holding a minutes applause at our game against Hyde on Saturday as a mark of respect and the Match Ball is in his honour.
