A very competitive game saw both teams go all out for the win.

Simon Garner changed the squad around to give those a game who didn't feature against Blackburn Rovers. The first chances went to Colne with the lively Danny Boyle forcing Matt Green to make a couple of early saves.
The Blues first effort came on 13 mins when Richard Burns shot from just outside the box was pushed round the post by the Colne keeper Chris Thompson.

Colne had another good chance on 20 mins, when Boyle again was sent through but his attempted chip went wide of the goal. On 26 mins, Danny Morton ran down the right flank and sent a low cross in to the box which was just out of reach for Burns and Peter Dunkerley.

Colne took the lead on 29 mins with the Blues back four stretched, Jason Hart went clear and confidently finished giving Green no chance. The lead lasted barely two minutes as the Blues levelled the score. A superb run down the right from Mike Aspin saw his inch perfect cross headed home at the far post by Burns.

The impressive Aspin was again causing problems for Colne minutes later, when another good run down the right led to Callum Hoctor's shot well saved for a corner by Thompson. On 35 mins, David Lynch broke in to the box and was brought down and a penalty was awarded. Lynch took it himself and scored to give the Blues a 2-1 lead.

Blues had another good chance to increase the lead on 40 mins when Thompson again saved well from Dunkerley's effort.

Half Time - Clitheroe 2 Colne 1

The second half saw Blues make five changes at the start and there were further substitutions by both teams during the half.

Colne levelled the game on 60 mins when Boyle hit a superb shot from the edge of the box in to the top corner giving Green no chance. If we thought that was the goal of the game, the Blues winner on 76 mins was even better. A free kick was awarded 30 yards out and James Walker blasted it in to the top right hand corner.

The end of the game saw a few feisty tackles fly in, one which saw former Blue Simon Nangle receive treatment and also a nasty looking collision between Ross Dent and Colne keeper Thompson, which saw the latter leave the field.

Another good run out for the Blues against a very decent looking Colne team, who look like they will have a decent season in the North West Counties Premier Division. Good luck to them for the season and their noisy contingent of fans who enjoyed the afternoon.
