Clitheroe 2 City of Liverpool 0
Goal scorers – Veron Parny 45’, Sefton Gonzales 84’
For most of the first half, Clitheroe laboured against a solid City of Liverpool side, with barely a shot on goal. Indeed, the visitors could have taken a shock second minute lead when a sweet cross was headed wide of the post with the goal at the striker’s mercy. Young Accrington loanee Alex Henderson, came off the bench for Clitheroe early in the first half and looked likeliest throughout the game to make things happen. As the clock ticked down in the first half, Veron Parny received the ball on the apex of the six yard box and somehow managed to fire the ball home with an overhead kick. The second half was much more in the home side’s favour and even though they never got out of third gear Clitheroe still managed to hit the woodwork 5 times. Domaine Rouse was flattened in the box for Clitheroe, but Richie Baker saw his penalty well saved, with the follow ups being blocked and hitting the bar. On 80 minutes, Parny rattled the woodwork after great work by John McGrath, and minutes later Henderson unpicked the visitors with a superb pass on a plate for Sefton Gonzales to stroke home. There was still time for a Parny cross to be glanced against the woodwork before the final whistle went.
