Clitheroe 3 Hanley Town 4
Att: 652
Clitheroe crashed to defeat in a chaotic game by the odd goal in seven, with home manager Danny Caldecott handing in his resignation at the end of the game. Hanley took the lead on 5 minutes, when a free kick was floated into the Clitheroe box and Joel Stair headed home unchallenged from 6 yards. They should have extended their lead on 31 minutes when a visiting forward found himself inexplicably in acres of space and it took three desperate challenge to clear the ball.
There was more purpose from the home side in the second half, but this evaporated when a scuffed clearance let in Sam Turner to fire home for the visitors. Ten minutes later they increased their lead after a burst down the left , with the low cross finished by substitute Adam Watson. Clitheroe substitute Amaar Hussain pulled one back after a scruffy cross from the right but Hanley instantly restored the three goal advantage after a home clearance bounced off Watson’s leg and he drove on to score. Sefton Gonzales headed home for Clitheroe from a deep free kick and Richie Baker drove a shot in from the left for Clitheroe’s third. As injury time kicked in, Baker thumped a fierce shot against the woodwork but it was too little far too late.
