Clitheroe's winless run continued after a narrow 0-1 defeat at the hands of Spennymoor Town in the Evo-Stik northern league. Clitheroe were looking to bounce back into form having not won a league game since the 6-1 home victory against Droylsden back in November.
4 minutes in and Spennymoor broke the deadlock. A corner from the far side found Nathan Curtis whose shot from range fell to striker Nathan Fisher inside the Clitheroe box who turned and fired past keeper Ben Woodhead to give Spennymoor an early 0-1 lead.
The rest of the half presented limited chances for both teams. On 7 minutes a ball launched forward by James Heywood picked out Sefton Gonzales who's effort on the volley went wide of the target and out of play for a goal kick.
In the 40th minute, an audacious attempt by Spennymoor striker Liam Henderson with an overhead kick flew straight into the hands of Ben Woodhead.
Half-time Clitheroe 0-1 Spennymoor Town
The second half presented 2 key chances for Clitheroe as they looked to salvage something from the game. On 57 minutes Clitheroe had a strong claim for a penalty as it appeared that the ball hit a Spennymoor player's hand in the box but the appeals for a penalty were waved away by the referee.
There was a last ditch effort by the home side to grab a late goal. In the 90th minute a last ditch corner for Clitheroe was pumped into the box but their efforts were cleared off the line and away from danger by a resilient Spennymoor defence which enabled the visitors to claim all 3 points.
The defeat, along with results elsewhere means that Clitheroe now drop from 8th down to 12th in the Evo-Stik Northern Division.
