Not subdued with the Shawbridge fog-By Chris Musson

With the fog shrouding the Valley for much of the day and with Reg having been given a minute's applause, the big Shawbridge crowd was in expectant if slightly subdued mood. The first half was solid but unexceptional with half chances at either end but with nothing to really set the pulse racing. The Blues had a succession of deep Gareth Roberts' corners, and whilst much was threatened, nothing really came of them.

The second half could not have been more different. On 48 minutes, the excellent Alex Newby was almost gifted a goal after an air shot from the Hyde keeper, but he just could not get his cross in past the back-pedalling keeper. One minute later, Hyde had a big shout for a penalty, which came to nothing. The visitors were starting to get into their stride and Chris Thompson was forced to finger tip a long range drive round the post. Two minutes later, Thompson had a shot bounce off his chest, and had to be in top form to regain his shape and make another tremendous save. Other chances came the way of Hyde.
However, having weathered the storm, the Blues went up a gear. A superb flick from Charlie Russell set Dimitri Tuanzebe free and the shot with the outside of his boot just went wide. Three minutes later, substitute George West set Tuanzebe free but the attack fizzled out. West was finding his feet and his 50 yard run and cross two minutes later deserved more than an empty box. Clitheroe took the lead on 69 minutes when Kurt Willoughby burst down the right and his cross scudded across goal into the path of Russell who struck a superb shot on the move into the top corner.
The lead lasted one minute, when Hyde attacked down the right, and when the deep cross was headed back to wrong foot the defence, Khamsuk stabbed the ball home. The game was now red hot and on 74 minutes, West again went on a penetrating run and drove the ball into the far corner to restore the lead.
On 82 minutes Thompson made a point blank save, albeit it was subsequently ruled offside and as the Blues sought the killer goal, substitute Stavros Tserpes received a through ball, but ballooned the chance over.

When the referee blew for full time, each of the 414 spectators had had great value for money and the run continues, with bogey team Farsley facing the lads next Saturday after the long trip to Workington on Tuesday in the league cup.
