Blues secure top striking talent as future looks bright

"I look forward to getting back out on the pitch and giving 100% effort for the team.”
- Kielen Adams

The Blues have secured another important piece of the future at Shawbridge by retaining the services of top young striker Kielen Adams.

Following the news that player-manager David Lynch has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the club, Clitheroe are delighted to confirm that Adams will also be staying on for next season.

The former Bradford City and Oldham Athletic youngster joined the Blues on a contract last summer and the club has taken up the option to extend his stay for a further 12 months after an impressive start to his Clitheroe career.

The 19-year-old top-scored for the Blues in the season that’s currently on hold due to the Covid pandemic with four goals.

And his decision to stay on in the face of widespread interest from elsewhere continues the Blues’ policy of looking to retain their top young talent while giving them a platform to progress their careers.

“I am more than happy that the club have decided to take up the option with me,” said Adams.

“I am also grateful on a personal level as this is a club that has made me feel comfortable from the minute I joined.

“This club has great staff for my development to improve all areas of my game and as a young player I should only enhance in an environment like this. I look forward to getting back out on the pitch and giving 100% effort for the team.”

The Blues’ footballing activities are currently on hold, but the club has been busy behind the scenes planning for when fixtures can resume.

And director of football Carl Garner sees Adams as an important part of the project.

“Kielen, for me, is the most exciting young striker playing outside the Football League,” said Garner.

“He has lots to learn and will only improve, but for a 19-year-old boy he has incredible pace and power and a great attitude since the day he joined us, not to mention his goals.

“He is a boy who has come so very close to making it into League football at a very early age and for me that opportunity will certainly come again with several interested parties already.

“We should be proud we have him here and the way he’s developing under David’s lead. Taking up our option was a complete no brainer for both myself and David.”

Lynch, who is already working hard to have a squad in place for when the Northern Premier League gets the green light to resume, which may yet be next season, said: “Kielen has all the key attributes you look for in a number nine.

“His performances and goal return for a 19-year-old have been phenomenal. He is always looking for areas to improve and put the work in away from the club to help his all-round game, which for a young player with his potential this is vital.

“We are privileged to have him at this football club and aid his development towards getting back into League football.”
