With new signing Callum Carter coming through the doors at Shawbridge, the Evo-Stik transfer window slammed shut.

Having not played in the eight tier of English football before, the centre back is an unknown quantity to many at the club. As many are hoping, not expecting Carter to be a hidden gem for Simon Garner’s team.

Scouted by Blues coach Jordan Allen, the backroom staff at the club have been impressed by what they’ve seen so far of the commanding defender.

As Allen believes the local lad will become a big player for the side in the future due to his impressive talents.

“I'd heard from a few lads that I know, that Callum was a good player and that he'd be worth a try down at Clitheroe. I already knew him, so getting him to come to training was quite easy.”

He's only 20 years old and never played at this level before so it's all new to him. He's definitely got the attributes to be successful at this level. He's everything you want from a defender at this level. He’s brave, strong and at six foot three very commanding.”

With Allen sharing his contacts and expertise with Garner, Ryan Parr and Ajet Wale.

The ‘fantastic four’ have built up a great understanding. As all members of the backroom staff have contributed in bringing in players this campaign.

“We all have an input into tactics. Obviously Simon and Ryan have the final say on matters. All four of us get along great and we all trust each other, in what we are saying is the best for the team.”

Despite only featuring on the substitutes bench so far, Carter is seen as one to flourish during the 2015/16 season and coach Allen believes if the centre back continues to impress he will grow into a ‘main-stay’ at Clitheroe.

“I think this season will be about getting used to the physicality and learning what the league is all about. He may not get much game time in the remaining games but it's important to observe from the side lines and take in what's expected.

“From what we've seen in training of him, we've been impressed. Once he has a full pre-season and gets his fitness levels up, I'm sure he'll be a mainstay in the squad for next season.”
