Bamba in high spirits
AUTHOR: JAMES BURCH
Clitheroe defender Seydou Bamba spoke to the website after yesterday’s 3-2 derby day win over Padiham, praising his sides determination and grit. He is excited about playing Scarborough Athletic tomorrow at Shawbridge and pitting his wits against a team pushing for promotion this season.
“I was very happy with yesterday's win. We didn't play like we did in the previous games.it however shows our character in terms of digging deep, sticking together and grinding results out. The pitch didn't help our passing game and that will happen. Sometimes you need to do the dirty stuff and that's what we did.”
“I think our defence has been down to constant communication, staying tight and close to one another and helping each other out. Mistakes will happen, I was at fault for one of the goals but you keep your head carry on until the end which we did.”
Scarborough Athletic are joint-managed by former Charlton Athletic, Hull City and Birmingham City midfielder Bryan Hughes and Bamba is under no illusions that it will be a difficult game against the side sixth in the table.
However Clitheroe have performed valiantly against the sides top ten this campaign and have picked up wins against the likes of Droylsden and Salford City this season;
“Winning tomorrow will boost our confidence even more. We are not getting carried away but we have given a good account of ourselves against teams in the top half of the table. We will go out there and give them a game. It's always difficult against teams that are in the top half and challenging.”
“Of course when you have a former premiership player as your manager, it helps. He has experience in the game and has his team playing the way he wants them to. Like any team they will cause us problems especially when attacking us. This where we stick together and defend together as a team.it won't be a one way street though, we will cause them problems as well.”
Blues forwards Sefton Gonzales and Jay Hart have scored five of their sides last nine goals and are definitely the in-form strike partnership in the league this month.
Coming up against a Scarborough defence that had conceded just three in their last five games, before yesterday’s 3-0 defeat to Darlington 1883. Hart and Gonzales will have to be on top of their games to carry on their incredible scoring streak but the former Squires Gate left-back, Bamba believes they can do just that;
“With Sefton and Jay on top form at the moment. They cause defence problems with their movement, hold up play and running at players. Our midfield have been on form as well. We have good engines in the centre of midfield that never stop working and have wingers who can get at players.it will be an entertaining game.”
