Board Statement on the Accrington Stanley Pre-Season Friendly

Board Statement on the Accrington Stanley Pre-Season Friendly

Anna Hickling25 Jul - 13:51

But all is not lost thanks to the incredible efforts of Carl Garner.

We are incredibly disappointed to announce that Accrington Stanley has pulled out of our pre-arranged fixture, scheduled to take place on Sunday, 27th July, due to not being able to raise a full team.

We were only notified just after noon, on Friday, 25th July.

The whole CFC team has put a Herculean effort into creating an unforgettable matchday experience for this event, and so, whilst we are disheartened in our original opponents, we are pleased to announce that a fixture will be going ahead at The Loom Loft Stadium at the same time and day.

We will now be facing Flixton FC, and we welcome any Accrington Stanley fans to join us for a fantastic day at Shawbridge, with Doughboy Pizza and Finch Bakery in attendance, and with our 'Drink Us Dry' offer still going ahead.

We want to collectively give a huge thank you to Flixton FC for coming through for us at the 11th hour and agreeing to a friendly at such short notice, and to our own Carl Garner for taking time out of his holiday to sort this out and avoid greater disappointment.

We are, of course, saddened by our former opponents actions but together we can still have a great day. All the original arrangements remain in place, and our brand new Away Kit will be available for purchase on the day.
We encourage and invite all Clitheroe FC fans, Clitheroenians and Accrington Stanley fans to join us on Sunday and support not only us, but the freshly formed Flixton FC, who narrowly missed out on joining a league for the 25/26 season. We are proud to play a part in their development for future seasons.

Carl Garner, Director of Football, gave us his thoughts:

"Having been faced with the almost impossible task of finding last minute opponents, on possibly the busiest football weekend of the season, and being in Turkey on my hols, I have turned to all the special footy people I know and thankfully Ashton Utd manager Steve Cunningham, and new Flixton FC Manager Alex Mortimer, have come to our rescue and the two men have stepped in to provide us with stern opposition this Sunday.
Please could as many blues fans as possible support this event, our Chairman has worked hard to provide extra facilities, and this will be a great day for the club regardless."

CFC Manager, Sean McConville, has this to say;

"Not only am I disappointed in my former club for the disregard shown to myself as a former player, but also to us as a football club who rely on gate receipts from games like this to help fund the club going into a big season. With plenty of work gone on behind the scenes to make Sunday a special day for both sets of fans, to cancel the game with less than 48hrs notice has proven to be a real kick in the teeth for myself and the club."

As always, we are #ForwardTogether
