Terry Cummings commits to Blues as another prized possession stays at Shawbridge

“After a season cut short I think we are moving in the right direction and the future is promising."

Clitheroe have added another key part to their ‘Blueprint’ by securing the future of another prized asset in versatile wideman Terry Cummings.

Cummings has signed a new, improved deal to extend his stay at Shawbridge until the end of next season.

And after retaining the services of Kielen Adams and Jake Connelly – as well as committing his own long-term future to the club – Blues’ boss David Lynch is delighted to have agreed terms with Cummings and held onto one of his stand-out performers of the moth-balled 2020/21 season.

“Terry has been a pleasure to work with from the day we came into the football club,” said Lynch.

“He has tremendous pace and power as well as being technically fantastic.

“The progression he has shown, especially when you consider he has had to adapt to a new position, has been exceptional.

“I have no doubts if Terry keeps working hard and showing a strong attitude to improve he will move up the leagues and we are delighted he sees us as the right club for this stage in his career.”

Cummings – who started his career at Blackburn Rovers – joined the Blues from Burscough in the summer of 2020 as a winger.

But after showing his versatility in switching to a right-sided defensive role, the 23-year-old sees a positive outlook for the Blues once football resumes.

“I’m delighted to sign a new contract with Clitheroe and excited to get back playing with the team,” said Cummings.

“After a season cut short I think we are moving in the right direction and the future is promising.

“The coaching and fitness staff are always looking to improve players collectively and individually which has helped me develop in different areas of my game.”

Cummings’ performances this season had attracted interest from elsewhere.

But with the Blues looking to keep progressing on and off the field, and working hard behind the scenes during lockdown, his was another deal the club were delighted to get done.

“Terry had reached a point by Christmas where I genuinely couldn’t see a better performer in our league,” said director of football Carl Garner.

“He has developed the art of attacking right-back to add to his other roles and he had become an integral part of David’s team.

“We are aware there is lots of interest in Terry around the game at the moment and we are delighted he has accepted our new improved deal to stay.”
