Experienced striker adds another big piece to Blues' jigsaw

“I think the fact he’s played at all the higher non-league levels at some huge clubs tells you the stature of the player we are getting."
- Carl Garner

Clitheroe have landed another of their top transfer targets with Craig Hobson arriving at Shawbridge to pep up the Blues’ attack.

Hobson becomes player-manager David Lynch fifth new signing and once again brings an outstanding pedigree to the Blues’ new-look squad.

The towering striker comes with top-flight non-league experience following spells in the National League with Stockport County, Lincoln City and Chester City.

And the 32-year-old joins the Blues after hitting double figures last season for BetVictor Premier League outfit Stalybridge Celtic, where he was a team-mate of returning Blues’ midfielder Ross Dent.

“Craig is the experienced big target man David has sought since he first got the job weeks ago,” said the Blues' director of football, Carl Garner.

“I think the fact he’s played at all the higher non-league levels at some huge clubs tells you the stature of the player we are getting.

“The club has once again backed David in building his squad ready for whenever we can get this project rolling.”

Bolton-born Hobson has also been a goalscorer in the League of Wales and played in National League North for a number of clubs, including a short spell at Alfreton Town with Lynch.

“For me, securing Hobbo was vital,” said the Blues’ player-boss.

“I am absolutely delighted to get this over the line and cannot wait to start working with him.

“Hobbo is everything you could wish for in a centre forward. He’s big, strong, fantastic with his back to play, knows where the net is and has a fantastic attitude.

“This is another great addition to the squad and his experience will contribute towards taking the football club to where we want to go.”

Hobson’s capture follows the signings of Dent, Billy Priestley, Danny Pilkington and Danny O’Brien as the Blues build on and off the pitch for when the 2020/21 season gets the go-ahead.
