Interview with Oliver Wood

Interview with Oliver Wood

Robbie Holmes5 May 2020 - 10:28

Blues forward gives his thoughts on the season just gone and answers a few personal questions.

Q. How do you feel the season went as a whole?

A. Having reached the targets set out by the chairman, I think we had a pretty decent season considering what has happened to the club over the past few seasons. With a decent winning run before Christmas being the highlight of the performances. The inconsistency after Christmas was slightly disappointing but it wasn't through the lack of effort from everyone involved on the playing side!

Q. What was your personal highlight of the season?

A. Beating the league favourites Workington at home and very convincing demolition of Droylsden in the final fixture was pretty satisfying, especially finishing on a high.

Q. Who was your Clitheroe player of the season?

A. Conor Gaul was like Goldust before Christmas on his scoring run and Craig Stanley is Mr. consistent, it would be unfair to choose between them both.

Q. Do you think play-offs/promotion next season is realistic and if so what areas do you think we need to improve to achieve that?

A. Having been involved in the playoffs over the last 2 seasons and seeing the players we have then we could definitely be challenging up there next year with a little more consistency. We need more pace upfront to stretch teams and a few older heads in the team to see out and manage game situations better. If browny can keep hold of the majority of the squad for when football resumes, then the club will be in a good place on the playing front.

Q. Which clubs have you played for before Clitheroe?

A. Halifax Town (Youth Teams) Padiham FC, Kendal Town, Lancaster City and Colne FC

Q. First memory of football?

A. Watching Burnley as a kid and cheering on the mighty Clarets!!

Q. Proudest memory in football?

A. Watching Burnley at Wembley in the championship playoff final beating Sheffield United and gaining promotion to the premier league has to be up there.

Q. Worst experience in football?

A. Having never been sent off in my life then getting banned for 2 months last year over something very petty with a referee was pretty embarrassing.

Q. Aspirations in football?

A. Football isn't real life so just to play and try to enjoy it as much as I can. Also, keep as fit as possible now I'm into my 30's!

Q. What do you do away from football? (hobbies)

A. Play golf over the summer and try to get my handicap down. I have 2 hound dogs so enjoy walking them a lot. Also, you can't beat a pint with my mates!

Q. What is your day job?

A. Currently, an electrical maintenance engineer working for the Weir Group. Produce large scale pumps for Oil/Gas, Quarry, Mining sector.
