Gym keeps Clitheroe fighting fit
AUTHOR: JAMES BURCH
Clitheroe football club would like to thank Louis Mayers and Antony Monks for letting the team train at ‘The Gymnasium Chorley.’
Personal Trainer Mayers has been putting the boys through their paces, helping with strengthening and conditioning training at the multi-purpose gym.
With last Tuesday’s session being the first of a four week session to improve the sides fitness going into the business end of the season.
Working on a wide range of skills, on equipment ranging from weights to cardiovascular exercises, Mayers has excelled in recent weeks putting his profession to the test.
The gyms mentality of ‘never say die’ has rubbed off on the players and their new found fitness and drive could be seen last weekend against Burscough.
The way the side came out of the traps in the second half, scoring a late equaliser showed that the boys are really reaping the benefits from ‘The Gymnasium’ and Mayers expertise.
Clitheroe forward Jay Hart spoke after his second week of gym training saying;
“I really appreciate Louis for allowing us to use the facilities. His work outs are tough but we are all going to benefit from it. Our fitness level are only going to increase and that will help us on the pitch when we have to dig in most, to grind out results.”
Finance director of the club Andrew Jackson is also delighted with the opportunity the side have been presented with at the gym;
“We are delighted that the lads have been given the chance to do some fitness training at The Gymnasium in Chorley. Louis Mayers is one of the fitness instructors there and he has been putting the lads through a series of Boot camp sessions, starting last week and continuing for four weeks. The Gymnasium offer great four week packages for any sports club interested. Ryan approached us a couple of weeks ago and we were only too happy to support the team. The lads seem to be really enjoying the sessions as they seem to be constantly complaining how stiff they are after which is a good thing!”
Your first class at The Gymnasium Chorley is always free, so anybody male or female, young or old can come down and give it a go. There are no long term contracts and you can pays as you go per class.
It is definitely a unique experience to say a Clitheroe player has helped you get fit. Well you can have that today…as Mayers is an employee of the gym.
Personal Training packages with him are priced at £15 per session. He also offers a free 30 minute taster session.
