Ex-Burnley man Paul Weller helps guide next generation of Blues

The Blues are delighted to have secured another key appointment with former Burnley midfielder Paul Weller taking joint charge of the club’s Under-18 set-up.

Clitheroe confirmed Billy Priestley and Gary Stopforth as the club’s senior management team at the weekend.

And Weller – who made over 250 league appearances for the Clarets – has joined the Blues to run the Shawbridge youth side in tandem with Myles Cunliffe.

The pair previously enjoyed great success across several age groups at Burnley Belvedere.

And they are now over-seeing two Clitheroe FC sides at Under-18 level in the highly-regarded North-West Youth Alliance.

The Blues will have a side in the First Division – alongside the likes of Burscough and Nantwich Town - and in the Development Division, which includes Altrincham, Curzon Ashton and AFC Fylde.

Weller, who lives in Clitheroe, is also being assisted by former Burnley, Stoke City and Birmingham City defender Vince Overson.

And there is room for an additional person keen to get into coaching or management and anyone interested can contact Paul via his Twitter account @PaulWeller18.

The Under-18s will kick off their league campaign in mid-September but before that start out with an FA Youth Cup preliminary-round tie at Chester FC on Monday, 30 August.
