Striker Elliot Pond becomes boss Brown's 10th new recruit

Striker Elliot Pond has made it the perfect 10 for new arrivals at Shawbridge.

Pond – who enjoyed a prolific campaign with AFC Darwen last season – becomes the 10th summer signing for Blues boss Phil Brown.

The former Blackpool youth-team player scored 23 times in 32 appearances for North-West Counties outfit Darwen last term.

And Brown believes the prolific Pond, 22, will be an important acquisition for Clitheroe ahead of the new BetVictor League season.

“He’s a strong, powerful forward who has an eye for goal,” said Brown.

“His hold-up play and awareness is good and he can link the play well.

“He carries a real goal threat as his record clearly shows and will really add to our attacking threat which will be a key strength this season.”

Brown will give his new-look squad, which still has room for a number of further new faces, its first public run-out on Saturday when the Blues start their pre-season campaign at Nelson (KO 2pm).

The real thing starts on Saturday, 10 August, with Clitheroe drawn at home to 1874 Northwich Victoria in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup - a week before the BetVictor League gets under way.

Meanwhile, the Blues will find out today (Friday) their opening opponents in the FA Cup and FA Trophy.
