Simon Garner 'delighted' to sign David Lynch

Simon Garner 'delighted' to sign David Lynch

Shane Hudson10 May 2014 - 15:14

Clitheroe manager Simon Garner said he was ‘delighted’ to sign David Lynch, following the former Burnley player’s decision to join the club.

“I’m delighted and just glad to get it signed. David was my main target this summer, he’s only a young lad but he adds a lot of experience that we don’t have at the moment.”

“I got in early, met the lad and I was really impressed with him. Fortunately he seemed to like what I said and he just wants to play football.”

“He wants to play higher as well. He’s got ambition, drive and I just liked the way he talked about what he wanted from his game and how he played. He doesn’t miss a session, he works hard, he’s just ideal really.”

“I know he’s only young and I am looking for a few more additions in terms of experience and age but he has got that non-league experience that we were lacking at the end of last season.”

“Obviously tying him up on a contract is great as well because I do think, along with the 3 other lads that I’ve got (on contracts) that he will play higher and that’s why obviously we put them on a contract.”

“I think all four of them have got big potential and I just thank the club for backing me on that. It just shows that they believe in myself, Ryan and Jordan and they think were working in the right way, doing the right things to obviously put right the league position next season.”

When asked whether David’s professional youth development at Burnley will boost the squad, Simon said “I really do to be honest, he really impressed me. He’s got a really professional attitude, he still believes and still wants to play league football at some point in his career and I believe he can do that, it’s happened with lads in the past from Clitheroe.”

“I know that he will train like he plays and he’ll be a voice in there which I am lacking a little bit at the moment. He’s been unfortunate, yes he was pro and everyone I’ve spoken to did expect him to get kept on at Burnley but he’s done the right thing to be fair. He’s dropped down the leagues, proved himself, stepped up again and unfortunately he’s taken a step back but he’s doing it with the right beliefs and right attitude. He wants to kick on again and do well at a local club, enjoy himself and play games.”

“He wants to play every week, he wants to do well and I obviously expressed my wish to do well with the club. He bought into that, he really wants to come here and I’ve told him to enjoy himself and I think he’s really happy to get it done.”

“I know he’s been pestered by a few clubs already but he didn’t really want to go not knowing, trialling and things like that. He wanted to sort his future out before the summer and then he could get his head round it before pre-season.”

“I know he could go higher and he will go higher so to get him down here, it’s a massive plus for the club, the lads that are going to play with him and for David himself because at end of day he’s going to get games at this level, get more experience and he gets chance to show what he can do.”
