The Price Is Right For New Assistant Boss Chris

Blues add experienced operator to management team

“The chairman at Clitheroe said would I be interested? And why wouldn’t I be?"
- Chris Price

Chris Price is delighted to be back in the dug-out after joining the Blues as assistant manager.

Price left a role as vice-chairman at fellow NPL West Division outfit Colne to move to Shawbridge.

He will now work with the Blues’ management duo of Billy Priestley and Gary Stopforth to help them focus on playing duties.

And after previously clocking up vast managerial experience with the likes of Padiham, Barnoldswick Town and Silsden, Price is looking forward to swapping an off-field role with Colne to being back on the front line.

“I enjoyed it on the game (at Colne) but would go home pretty disappointed,” said Price.

“I’d put my heart and soul into anything but I’d go home disappointed because I’d lost the buzz.

“And you certainly don’t get more of a buzz than the other night. Things like the other night are why you do it – even if I was going to get my coat after 20 minutes!”

Price – who is also being supported by Arron Ripley following his promotion from the U21s to a position as first-team coach – started his new role with the Blues at Prescot Cables on Tuesday night.

And he saw Clitheroe come from 2-0 down to clinch a thrilling 3-2 win and get the relationship off to a flying start.

“I spoke to the Colne chairman (Ryan Haigh) and there were certainly no hard feelings there,” added Price, who brings with him more than 20 years of managerial experience and has known both Priestley and Stopforth for a good part of that.

“The chairman at Clitheroe said would I be interested? And why wouldn’t I be?

“Billy asked if I would be interested in coming in to help out. He said: ‘we’re quiet in the dug-out, you’ve got all the experience in the world, why don’t you come down and give us a hand?’

“They’ve got a great bunch of lads and there is a lot of potential here. I’m looking forward to it.”

Price's next task will be trying to help guide the Blues through in the FA Cup with Priestley and Stopforth looking to extend their unbeaten start in Sunday's preliminary-round tie at Northwich Victoria (KO 3pm).
