Clitheroe 1 1874 Northwich 3
Clitheroe crashed to a heavy defeat at home to 1874 Northwich, and not even an improved second half could mask the dreadful first half.
1874 played neat, attacking football and Joe Woolley picked his spot on 25 minutes after a driven cross. Five minutes later, the lead was doubled as Danny Wilkins for Clitheroe lost the ball deep in his own half and two passes later saw debutant Josh Quarless expertly slide the ball past the advancing keeper. As the half ticked down, an 1874 header saw two unmarked players at the back post, with Joe Woolley stabbing the ball home for his second.
The second half was more promising for Clitheroe and Max Cane had home fans hoping as he swivelled to volley in a high bouncing ball, but the mountain was too high to climb and 1874 deservedly maintained their hoodoo over the Blues.
