The Blues dominated the game but failed to turn possession and pressure into 3 points and almost returned home pointless. First half chances
fell to Cameron Lancaster from a Richard Baker cross from the right and Danny Wilkins from a Darren Holden cross from the left but their headers
failed to find the target.

Max Cane and Sefton Gonzales also had close-range shots blocked or deflected. Lee Pugh fired in numerous throw-ins, but Widnes had every player back and had 2 or sometimes 3 players on Sefton Gonzales so little advantage was gained in a packed goalmouth. Reece Webb-Foster replaced Sefton at half time and he almost broke the deadlock in the 46th minute but his effort went over the bar.

Lee Pugh again fired in multiple throws but again the packed defence held firm. Richard Baker fired a couple of free kicks over the bar and a
last ditch tackle stopped sub Jamie Edwards before he could fire off a shot. Widnes didn't offer much up front until the very last seconds of
the game when a forward was put through and had the best chance of the game. Choosing to go for power rather than a placed side footed strike he blazed his shot from 6 yards over the bar with just Chris Thompson to beat.
