Clitheroe 4 Witton Albion 1
HT: 1-1. Crowd: 603
Man of the Match: Lee Pugh
Clitheroe ran out as convincing winners of this entertaining game but it was the visitors who dominated most of the first half. Witton opened the scoring after 9 minutes from a fine Connor Hughes strike and they looked the likelier team to score next. Clitheroe’s resurgence started in the 30th minute when Danny Wilkins played a corner back to Reece Webb-Foster who stroked home from the edge of the box. They finished the half strongly but went in for the break level thanks to keeper Chris Thompson somehow saving with his feet while diving the other way.
The Blues continued their dominance in the second half and had a goal disallowed for offside after 51 minutes. They took the lead after 65 minutes when smart close work by Danny Wilkins in the box saw Lee Pugh fire in a rebound off the Witton keeper. The lead was increased in the 78th minute when impressive substitute Abs Obasoto had a strong run down the right wing and his superb cross was volleyed home by an unmarked Sefton Gonzales in front of goal. Deep into added on time and Abs Obasoto completed the scoring with a fine finish inside the area to wrap up 3 welcome points.
