The Blues were handed their second defeat of the season as they were top trumped by Spennymoor Town.

After beating Lancaster City 4-2 and triumphing in the FA Cup preliminary round at Pickering Town spirits were high in the Clitheroe camp, however, The Blues were brought back down to earth, crashing down in the North East.

Anthony Peacock opened the scoring after 13 minutes, brilliant ball controlling an juggling allowed him to turn and strike just inside the box, Callum Jakovlevs wanted unmoved as the ball found his bottom right.

6 minutes later The Moors were two goals up, Liam Henderson latching onto the end of a cross at the far post, his first attempt was saved by the Clitheroe number one, but second around Henderson found goal.

The Blues failed to land a shot on target in the first 45 and walked in at half time two goals down, Lloyd Dean frustrated with his lack of service as the hosts dominated across the pitch.

Only two minutes into the second half Jason Ainsley’s side advanced their lead, Jakovlevs superbly stopping a strike from Andrew Stephenson, though the parried ball found its way to James Risborough who half-vollied-home for his side’s 3rd.

The torrent of home side pressure continued, proving to many why they are the favourites for promotion this year. On the 54th minute The Moors showed true class as Peacock’s lobbed ball over centre back Gregg Anderson found the feet of advancing Nathan Fisher who dispatched to Jakovlev’s near post.

In a game of few blue chances captain David Lynch pushed to pull one back, his 70th minute cross found the head of new boy Michael Hampson, fizzing over the bar Spennymoor keeper Daniel Lowson was worried.

Though six minutes later the side captiain by Chris Mason responded the only way they new how, a whipped corner latching to the head of substitute Shane Henry who powered low for the fifth.

That was The Blues 13th conceded goal in two trip to The Brewery field.

Though the score line may imply different Simon Garner’s men played well at time, link up play was often sublime but ultimately The Blues were outmuscled and frequently outplayed by a side who’ve spent many season together and are hot favourites to be playing Evo-Stik Premier Division football next season.

The result drops Simon Garner's side down into 8th on the Evo-Stik First Division North as they remain on nine points.
