Clitheroe's 4 game win streak came to an end with a 2-0 away defeat at the hands of Trafford in the Evo-Stik North Division on Saturday afternoon.
The game was a fiercely battle throughout and Clitheroe had the better of the chances in the 1st half. The first chance for Clitheroe came from striker Louis Mayers on the 2nd minute who ran onto a Sefton Gonzales header which split the Trafford defence, but as Mayers lifted the ball over the goalkeeper the ball went out of play.
Then on the 28th minute Brandon Barski tried his luck from range striking from 25 yards but he saw his effort fly over the bar and out of play.
On 35 minutes, Mayers was then presented with another chance on goal as a low cross came in from the left but Mayers' sliding effort couldn't be steered goal wards.
Half Time – Trafford 0-0 Clitheroe
The first goal of the game came on 56 minutes when Trafford's Aaron Burns ran through on goal and he managed to find Mitch Bryant who fired in from close range despite questions marks of being clearly offside, which left both the Clitheroe players and fans incensed.
Bryant then came close to doubling his tally in the 63rd minute but his shot hit the side netting.
Clitheroe began to mount the pressure once again with a free kick that substitute Kurt Willoughby struck from 20 yards, but Trafford keeper Russ Saunders managed to palm the ball round the post.
Trafford's 2nd goal came when the hosts were awarded a penalty when Clitheroe's Daniel Brady handled the ball in his own area, denying a goal scoring opportunity, that resulted in a red card for Brady and Clitheroe being down to 10 men.
It was then left for Trafford's Chris McDonagh to convert the penalty and earn all 3 points for Trafford.
The defeat leaves Clitheroe in 8th position on 47 points ahead of Tuesday nights home fixture against 4th place Glossop North End.
