Both teams went into the game after suffering midweek losses and were looking to bounce back with Clitheroe suffering a 4-0 defeat on the road to Avro and Vauxhall losing 1-0 at home to Bootle.
Clitheroe started well with a great chance in the 18th minute as Jacob Hanson whipped the ball across the face of the Vauxhall goal but Josh Briggs was unable to connect with it.
However, Vauxhall took the lead in the 20th minute when a Finlay Heath free kick found Nick Rushton who tapped it in.
Rushton then grabbed his second of the game with another precise finish into the far corner in the 37th minute to double the visitors lead.
The Motormen didn’t take their foot off the gas as they made it three just before the break in the 45+2 minute when Jawad Jerbin found Josh Solomon-Davies with a floated cross that the full back headed home.
Half Time: Clitheroe FC 0-3 Vauxhall Motors.
Things got tense between the two sides in the second half resulting in a double sending off in the 60th minute that saw Danny Wilkins and Joe Malkin suffer an early exit after an altercation between the two.
All hope was not lost for The Blues as Leon Creech pulled one back in the 81st minute after Luke Gill played a lovely through ball to leave the Clitheroe striker to fire it in past Reece Trueman.
A late comeback seemed to be on the cards for Sean McConville’s men as Veron Parny made it 3-2 after converting a penalty late on in the 83rd minute.
Vauxhall then struck back, adding a fourth goal in the 88th minute after a long ball was played up to Michael Burkley who went one on one with James McClenaghan and got the better of him.
The knockout blow was then finally dealt to Clitheroe in the 90+5 minute when Kevin Elison recovered a rebounded shot off Jack Massey to tuck it past McClenaghan to make it 5 for the visitors.
