Heading into this one, Clitheroe were keen to rectify their dismal performance on the road at Witton Albion at the weekend and a win here at Wythenshawe could give them some breathing room at the bottom of the table. As for Wythenshawe Town, they sat in 20th place with only one win in their last seven games.
Clitheroe started off on the front foot with an early chance for Sam Olowumi as Josh Briggs fizzed a cross across the box that went just beyond the striker in the 6th minute.
The visitors had another fantastic opportunity to score in the 20th minute when Jacob Hanson picked the ball up on the halfway line before driving down the right wing and finding Briggs with a cross who volleyed it agonisingly wide.
Wythenshawe had a decent chance of their own in the 24th minute when Jack Taylor narrowly headed over the bar from just inside the box.
Half Time: Wythenshawe Town 0-0 Clitheroe FC
Clitheroe continued to pile pressure into the second half with a golden chance from Luke Gill in the 60th minute who was brought down in the area by Wythenshawe goalkeeper Aidan McKerney but the referee waved off the claims despite the linesman flagging for a penalty to be given.
Sean McConville’s men finally took the lead, and it was no less than they deserved, when Jack Morris floated in a cross for Olawumi, who powered his header into the top corner beyond the reach of McKerney in the 61st minute.
The game was then put to bed late on in the 81st minute through a Gill goal after a rebounded Charlie Martin shot from distance fell to the inform striker who fired home from close range with the Wythenshawe defenders unable to react quick enough.
