Clitheroe beat the weather and take the three points.

With the game being one of very few in the area to survive the weather and with snow lying on the hills, the home side took much of the first half to warm to their task, before they ultimately dispatched Goole with some ease.

The first 30 minutes were virtually devoid of action worthy of note, although Charlie Russell had an early shot at goal after a good layoff from Mitch Bryant. On 30 minutes, the visitors benefited from a good advantage and Brad Carroll found himself in the unusual position of clearing off the line.

Two minutes later, with Goole's tails well and truly up, Danny Brady was tussling with a Goole player as he shepherded him out of the box, and the away fans were baying for a penalty as he appeared to use his hands as the forward went to ground. The referee waved play on, and whilst there was more pressure from the visitors, there was little end product to speak of. Indeed, Danny Brady could have nicked a goal with precious few minutes of the half left from a deep Charlie Russell free kick, but he just failed to get sufficient power with his header to find goal.

The second half was a total reversal, with Clitheroe dominating the full 45 minutes. Brady put the home side ahead on 50 minutes from an inswinging Russell corner and this was soon doubled by some Carroll magic. With 57 minutes on the clock, he received the ball on the right close to the touch line from Robbie Bromley.

Having taken a couple of paces to make his angle more central, he simply leathered the ball home, with little ceremony. Six minutes later, Carroll again was in the thick of the action as he drove to the byeline and lashed the ball across the face of the goal, just eluding the despairing forwards. Half chances followed, but his was the last of the substantive action.

The pulse might not have raced as in other home games, but it was good to see three points secured without the team ever really getting out of second gear.
