Hard nut to crack - by Andy Hammond

The Blues gained another vital victory to keep us in the hunt for a Play-off position.
The home side who desperately needed the points to attempt to avoid relegation, proved a hard nut to crack.
Charlie Russell was the match winner later on and he had the first attempt on goal after 3 minutes, when his shot on the half volley went over the bar.
Chances in the first half were few and far between with Goole having the best attempts. Danny Brady had to intervene on 22 minutes to head away a shot from the edge of the area.
On 37 minutes, a low cross from the left was struck first time by Goole’s Billy Johnson, thankfully for the Blues it just flashed past the post. Kurt Willoughby sent in a near perfect cross on 43 minutes, but it just eluded Aidan Kirby making a run in to the six yard box.
Half Time 0-0
The second half started on a bad note when Danny Brady came off after 55 minutes, not fully recovering from a knock he received close to half time. Jacob Davis replaced him.
On 62 minutes, Brad Carroll and a Goole player were involved in a clash of heads, Brad looked okay after treatment but was substituted three minutes later with Aidan Kirby. Chris Churchman and Dimitri Tuanzebe replaced them.
The substitutions sparked an immediate response from the Blues with Charlie Russell lashing a shot from 25 yards back off the crossbar.
The longer the game went on, the more likely it was that a single goal would prove decisive. It came on 78 minutes when Alex Newby produced a mazy run and dribble in to the box and he laid it back perfectly for Charlie Russell to fire the ball into the roof of the net.
The Blues controlled the game excellently in the remaining minutes and stoppage time to see out the victory, which keeps us within two points of the Play-off positions.

Team line-up: Chris Thompson, Wes Benjamin, Gareth Roberts, Ian Rowlands, Danny Brady (Jacob Davis 55), Charlie Russell, Joe Mitchell, Brad Carroll (Chris Churchman 65), Kurt Willoughby, Alex Newby, Aidan Kirby (Dimitri Tuanzebe 65). Subs not used, Ryan Cattermole & Adam Bolton.
