Clitheroe 6-1 Ossett United

Phil Brown's side were ready to get back to winning ways in the league after several postponements left the Blues without a BetVictor Northern Premier League fixture in nearly a month. His side lost their previous fixture on penalties following a 1-1 draw with Marines in The Integro League Cup, and will have been looking to get back on track in this league fixture.
The first five minutes saw both sides fight for possession in the middle of the pitch with neither side able to create any clear cut chances.
Moments later, Blues' keeper Connor King's long ball found Jacob Gregory on the edge of the 18 yard box who teed up Craig Carney but his eventual shot sailed high of the target.
The home side continued to pile on the pressure when Craig Stanley's lofted free-kick into the box found Gregory in space inside the opposition box but his powerful effort was blocked well by the United defender. After a quarter of an hour, the referee was given no choice but to award a penalty after United defender James Knowles pulled at the arm of Conor Gaul who received a red card for the foul.
And the penalty-winner was the man to take the penalty, rolling his spot kick into the far corner past Brett Souter who dived the wrong way.
The goalscorer continued to cause the visitors' problems, beating his man on the left wing before finding Gregory, but his effort was blocked by the United defender. The Blues' keeper received his first test of the match when Nicholas Guest unleashed a low, driven effort but King did well to get down to his right.
Moments before the half hour mark, Jake Connelly did brilliantly to beat several men down the left flank however the United defender did excellently to slide and steal the ball with a tackle that had to be perfectly timed. The Blues should have doubled their lead after Charlie Russell's cross beat the keeper and found Charlie Mulgrew in the centre of the box which left him with little to do, but he somehow managed to drag his effort wide with the goal at his mercy.
With minutes left to play of regular time in the first half, Mulgrew powered his way through the centre of the pitch before playing Gaul one-on-one with the keeper but the linesman adjudged the Blues forward to have been offside. Minutes into the second half, captain Russell found Gregory on the right wing whose driven cross only needed the slightest of touches but Gaul's outstretched leg failed to make contact with the ball.
Around the hour mark, Connelly continued to drive at the visitors' defence, before dispatching a low effort on goal, but the United keeper Brett Souter was equal to it.
After a spell of possession in midfield for both sides, United forward Marko Basic twisted and turned before being fouled in a dangerous position on the edge of the area. His resulting free-kick flashed inches wide of the top left corner. The Blues started to grab a real hold of the second half, causing the visitors' defenders all sorts of problems.

And it was Carney who collected the ball in midfield before sliding a delightful pass into Gaul who doubled his tally for the day after a calm finish past the helpless United keeper.
The home side continued to dominate the possession, putting in strong tackles at the back and winning the midfield battle.
And after the Ossett defender could only clear for a corner, substitute Ollie Stirzaker headed home to put his side firmly in the driving seat.
But the Blues' three-goal lead was reduced to two in as many minutes when United forward Tom Greaves let a long ball over the top run past him before taking a touch and slotting his effort past King.
Then another two minutes later, Carney and O'Neil combined brilliantly around the opposition box, with O'Neil's final pass finding Carney who unleashed a 25-yard drive into the bottom corner to make it 4-1 for the Blues. Continuing with the trend of a goal every two minutes, Stirzaker doubled his tally when he found himself through on goal after beating the offside trap, before calmly slotting past the keeper to almost certainly claim all three points for Phil Brown's men.
With one minute left of the 90, Carney put the game to bed after some sloppy defending from the visitors allowed him to pick his spot before finishing a goal not too dissimilar to his last.
The referee blew his whistle and an outstanding second half display saw the Blues run out deserved winners.
