Clitheroe and Dunston fought out another goalless draw, with neither side able to break the deadlock.
The Blues had the best of the early exchanges with Craig Carney swapping passes down the left on three minutes, before cutting inside and forcing a smart save.
Two minutes later, debutant Kieran Feeney steadied himself on the edge of the box and sent a rasping drive narrowly over the bar. The first Dunston chance came on 22 minutes from Jack Elliott, their stand out player on the left wing, and it was he who ran 40 yards down the left flank, before sending his shot skidding across the face of Chris Thompson’s goal.
On 34 minutes, the Dunston keeper flapped at a hanging corner and almost let in the Blues, but minutes later the home crowd held its breath as a penalty was awarded for a clumsy challenge on the edge of the box. Fortunately, leading goal scorer Fitzpatrick fluffed his lines and sent his shot tamely wide. There was still time for Jacob Gregory to do another of his lung bursting runs and he forced another good save from his shot.
The second half barely caught fire, and whilst a number of half chances fell to Tyrhys Dolan and to Craig Carney, the best chance fell to the visitors on 89 minutes when Dunston’s Elliott advanced down the right, had the rub of the green as he rode Gregory’s challenge before forcing a good save from Thompson and the follow up shot ballooned over.
