Clitheroe 2 Glossop NE 0
Att. 701
This was a cagey encounter with Clitheroe having one eye on the remaining play off place and their cautious approach reflected this thinking.
Clitheroe took the lead as early as the sixth minute, when Jack Burrows exchanged passes down the right and as the ball was swept across field to Jamie Edwards on the left, he tacked across the box and expertly picked his spot in the top corner. However, far from heralding a period of attacking play, Clitheroe were simply content to keep possession, albeit Burrows went close just before half time when he blasted narrowly over. The only other event of note was Glossop manager, and former Clitheroe boss, Stuart Mellish receiving a yellow card for dissent.
Clitheroe made far more chances in the second half but still barely left third gear. Early on, Danny Wilkins had a fine shot tipped round the post whilst Edwards blasted another shot over. However, it was goal sensation Max Cane who extended the lead after receiving the ball in the box from a series of neat passes and thumped it home.
This also proved too much for Mellish who sensed a stray hand in the proceedings and he was sent off for dissent. It took until the final 15 minutes for further chances to follow. Substitute Alex Turner was slipped through but the Glossop keeper foiled him with a great save at feet. Minutes later Wilkins thundered a free kick into the side netting and Sefton Gonzales released Turner again, only for the ball to go out before he could shoot.
That was the end of the action and it is on to Colne on Easter Monday for our final away game of the season in front of our biggest away following for several decades.
