Another Clitheroe coup as exciting young striker checks in at Shawbridge

The Blues have pulled off another big deal ahead of the new campaign with the capture of in-demand striker Kielen Adams.

Adams caught the eye playing as a trialist in the Blues’ 2-2 draw with FC United at Shawbridge on Bank Holiday Monday.

And boss David Lynch moved quickly to secure the services of the 19-year-old, who made a Football League debut for Oldham Athletic last season.

“It’s a massive signing for us,” said Lynch.

“I think anyone who saw him play for us as a trialist on Monday can see he’s a young, exciting, hungry player – even though he wasn’t fully match fit.

“He does everything you want as a centre-forward. He’s strong, athletic, powerful, with a good attitude and technical ability.

“We’re so excited about it. It’s taken a bit of work, but we’ve got it over the line.

“I’ve said we need to strengthen in that area. We’re never people to sit still and I’m glad to get it done.

“We needed another one up there – an out-and-out number nine to help Kieran and Hobbo. You can’t go into the season with just two strikers, so I’m delighted.”

Adams started his career with Oldham before joining Bradford City’s youth set-up on a two-year scholarship.

The Latics then re-signed the frontman on a professional deal last summer, also giving the teenager experience in the Football League Trophy.

Adams has also had loan spells with Hyde United and in the National League with Chorley and after being released by Oldham at the end of last season, was courted by a number of clubs before deciding to join the Blues to kick-start his career.

“We couldn’t be more pleased about getting Kielen into the club,” said Carl Garner, Clitheroe’s Director of Football.

“He’s big, strong, quick and only 19. The club has once again backed David and we have a fantastic prospect on board to add to our crop of exciting young players already here.

“He fits right into our long-term plans and I’m looking forward to seeing him settle and develop into the player both me and David believe he can become.”

Adams signed a deal on Thursday evening before training with the Blues’ squad and is set to be involved when Lynch’s men play Curzon Ashton in a friendly at Shawbridge on Saturday (KO 3pm).

Pay-on-the-gate is available, along with free entry with a season ticket, which are still available for just £50.
