David & the team are fully focused in their preparations for what will be a busy weekend of football for the Blues. Starting with our away trip to 1874 Northwich on Saturday, a team who have lost their last 3 NPL games, but Dempsey assures the fans they are not focused on anyone else but themselves. David explains their preparations before another vital game in the hunt for the playoffs.
"Training has been good this week, the lads are prepared for both games and fully focused. I feel like being in the right mindset going into the weekend is huge for the players. We need to take nothing for granted and approach each game with the right intensity and mindset. Standards have been set in training and we are all looking forwards to what lies ahead."
1874 Northwich sit 13th in the NPL table & are currently struggling for form, conceding 6 goals in their last 2 games & scoring once. With relegation almost an impossibility & no chance of reaching the playoffs, we asked David what kind of a threat 1874 pose his team on Saturday.
"I don’t look at form this time of the season. 1874 are capable of beating anyone on their day. They are a hard team to play against away from home and we know we will have to be at our best if we are to win the game. Every game going forward is a cup final, we can’t look at other team's form and take things for granted. We need to focus on us and only us. If we win our games, we will achieve what we want to. The lads know this and we are all looking forward to the game."
With 2 games in 3 days, the Gaffa looks to utilise the blues squad depth.
"Absolutely, we are lucky to have as strong a squad as we’ve got. We’ve recruited well through an injury crisis and I knew when everyone was fit we will be a force. We are lucky to have everyone available going into 2 really tough games in their own right. We will pick a team against 1874 and then assess for Colne after that. You are likely to see a large proportion of the group on the pitch over the 2 games in some capacity. Every player is really important for us."
Marc Pugh made his first appearance for Clitheroe last time out, something that excited the Shawbridge faithful. David looks to utilise Marc's Premier League class.
"Marc will be available for selection once again. If fit, Marc will play a part in both games. He’s a huge asset for us going into the final 4 games we need to make sure he and everybody else is right and ready to make a difference."
With the Blues tantalisingly close to a playoff finish, David maintains the one game at a time mentality.
"It’s one game at a time. No talk of Colne until after Saturday. No talk of the playoffs until we’ve achieved them. Football can change very quickly we just need to win our next game. We are focussed the atmosphere is good and we are all looking forward to what’s ahead. We can be proud of what we have achieved so far this season. As a manager, I am delighted with every player that’s had an impact and put us into this position."
"We now need to stick to the task and get a huge 3pts this weekend. The playoffs aren't won on Saturday, there’s still a lot of football to be played."
