Celebrating 100 Years at Shawbridge - Season 24/25

Season 2024-25 will be the 100th season that Clitheroe FC have played at Shawbridge since its facilities were upgraded and Clitheroe FC joined the Lancashire Combination. Prior to that, 1,000 townspeople contributed to the cost of extending the ground and to building a new stand and changing rooms.

Fast forward to the present day, with the signing of a 25 year extension to the club’s lease on the Shawbridge stadium, the club’s supporters, sponsors and the town generally have the perfect opportunity to emulate their predecessors and to reconfigure, grow and transform the club’s facilities to make them fit for purpose for a further 100 seasons. In so doing, allowing the club increasingly to become the logical focal point of Women’s and Junior football in the town. This initiative by the club’s Board has been called Shawbridge 100.

All aspects of how the ground’s footprint are utilised will be considered. This will inevitably include consideration being given to replacing the ground’s 30 year old floodlighting system to include LED lights, the ground’s capacity, its social facilities and key access points to the ground. Clitheroe FC has worked over the past 15 years in partnership with the Football Foundation, funded by the Premier League, to part fund key investments. With a 25 year lease, further approaches will be made. Detailed costings are uncertain at this point, but the club has set itself a target of raising at least £100,000 over the season, with a view to identifying grant funding which will at least double that figure. Further details will follow throughout the season as will opportunities for the club’s supporters and sponsors to help.

Vice chair Andrew Jackson said:

"We have invested some £250,000 into our facilities over the past three years and are now looking to complete the work we started."

Chair David Frost said:

"The signing of the new lease has given us a once in a generation chance to create a facility here at Shawbridge, which will allow the club to fulfil the clear potential the club has to progress and to deliver the success the town craves and deserves."
